Pasadena, Los Angeles County — Los Angeles County.
Pasadena has some of the oldest and largest trees in the county. Coast live oaks and deodar cedars here were mature before the houses under them were built, and a tree that size over a Craftsman roof is not a job anybody improvises.
Everything comes down in sections on ropes. There is no room on these lots to lay a limb down, and the roofs are low and deep-eaved enough that a branch does not have to fall far to do damage.

The thing that makes Pasadena different is that a lot of these trees are protected. Native oaks and street trees are not simply yours to remove because they are on your lot, and the honest answer to "can you take it out" is often "ask the city first, and here is why".
We would rather tell you that at the estimate than take your money and put you on the wrong side of an ordinance. In most cases the tree does not need removing anyway — a heavy old oak usually needs weight taken off the ends and dead wood out of the crown, which is a smaller job than the one people call about.
